I pointed out the the tie rod boot is on top of the steering knuckle and therefore the chances of a stick poking it is pretty much impossible and also the deterioration is clearly all around the rubber part on the compression line of the boot.
I then inquired if JD would be good with supplying me that part under warranty since this is a 90-hour old tractor? As expected, I was told that driving it through dirt and brush might have ripped the boot and the warranty doesn't cover damage inflicted through 'hard use'. 12/7 Update - just talked to JD parts department and they confirmed there is no boot replacement or kit for the tie rods but they enthusiastically invited me to purchase an entire new tie rod assembly for $469.21.
